DeepVid Browser Extension Privacy Policy
Purpose and scope
DeepVid is a browser companion that hands user-selected video links to the DeepVid desktop app on the same computer to create and organize AI notes. The extension requires that app. This policy describes the extension and its local session handoff, not every service a user may separately configure in the desktop app.
Links and titles
Opening the side panel displays the active tab’s URL and title, and the panel updates them when you switch tabs or the page changes (this uses the browser’s tabs permission; only the active tab’s title and URL are read, never a list of tabs or history). Clicking Send or the context-menu action sends the selected URL and title to the local desktop app and can start processing. On a fixed list of video sites (YouTube, Bilibili, TikTok, Douyin, Xiaohongshu and X), the extension shows an optional floating button on pages that look like a single video or post. The button only checks the page address and sends the address and title when you click it; it never reads the page content, and you can turn it off in the side panel. The extension does not read the full webpage, enumerate browsing history, or keep a history of sent links.
Asking about a video
For a video that the desktop app has already digested, the side panel can answer questions. Only when you submit a question does the extension send the current video URL and up to the last 12 messages (each at most 2,000 characters) to the DeepVid desktop app on this computer; the app generates the answer according to its own configuration. The conversation is kept only in the browser’s session storage, is removed when the browser closes, and can be cleared at any time. Asking never starts a digest and never reads the page content.
Optional YouTube session
Only an explicit Authorize YouTube action requests the optional cookies and YouTube host permissions. After a local one-use transfer ticket is approved, the extension reads YouTube cookies from the current tab’s browser profile and transfers YouTube-only cookie data to DeepVid on this computer. It does not read cookies belonging to other websites or profiles. A pending authorization task can accept the transfer automatically; idle transfers need client approval. Cookie data may include sign-in tokens and other YouTube session identifiers.
Destination and transport
Extension requests are limited to the dedicated DeepVid bridge at http://127.0.0.1:54977. Cookie values are not sent to developer servers or third-party analytics by the extension. This is loopback HTTP, not an encrypted internet tunnel. Local communication uses scoped tokens, origin checks and one-use transfer tickets; the operating system is part of the security boundary and this does not isolate malicious processes running on the same computer.
Storage and retention
The extension stores a local connection token, language and theme (light, dark or follow browser) preferences, and the floating-button settings, and keeps background authorization job status in extension session storage. It does not persist cookie values. The desktop app holds the received session in process memory until it is cleared or the app exits. An in-flight YouTube operation uses a restricted temporary cookie file, cleaned when that operation finishes or is cancelled. Clearing the stored session does not retract an already-running operation’s temporary snapshot.
Your controls
Do not authorize YouTube if you do not want this handoff. Remove the received login state in DeepVid’s component settings, cancel a waiting authorization, revoke the extension’s optional website/cookie permissions in the browser, or uninstall the extension. Revocation stops future browser reads; clear the desktop session separately to remove the copy already received. Restarting DeepVid drops its stored in-memory session.
Desktop processing and providers
The desktop app obtains media and generates notes using your selected configuration. Online speech-recognition or AI model providers may receive media, transcripts or note content separately as configured by you. Local components, model fees and paid desktop features are governed by their own product terms. The extension itself does not collect account passwords, payment details, advertising identifiers or full page content, and has no advertising, data-sale or third-party tracking SDK.
Limited use and external links
User data is used only for the disclosed video-to-notes workflow. It is not sold, used for advertising, or reused for unrelated purposes. Website, support and platform badges open only when you click them. Destination sites apply their own privacy policies.
